American Flags
Flags of the United States of America show the evolution of the country.1 The flag considered the first flag and used throughout the American Revolutionary War looked much like flags common at the time throughout Britain. 1These flags had no stars.1
Vintage American Flags are highly desired and are priced according to condition, design, rarity, and age.1 The flag which has been in service the longest is the current flag, which has 13 equal horizontal stripes, 7 red alternating with 6 white, which represent the original thirteen colonies.1 The 50 stars represent the 50 states. This flag design has been used since July 4, 1960.1 However, other flag designs have been in service only 1 year, making them more difficult to find.
Design plans are in place for flags with up to 56 stars.1 Movements surface ever so often supporting statehood for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.1 Nicknames for the flag include the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory, and the Star-Spangled Banner, which is also the country's official national anthem.
